It's Thanksgiving! And you know what that means... Allen Sisters Thanksgiving has commenced.

This consists of:

1) Cooking. It's the only day of the year we make an actual meal, and it generally consists of lasagna, crescent rolls, lemony green beans, and lots of chocolate pie.

2) Making a silly video. New tradition! But apparently our video was so hilarious last year that we had actual requests to do another. This will be up later, probably.

3) MST3K! Like 15 years ago, when MST3K was still on Comedy Central, they did a Turkey Day 24-hour marathon. We more or less keep this tradition. We're currently watching Mitchel, because... Mitchel! We'll probably go for Santa Claus vs. the Martians and Manos, Hands of Fate later, because those are the ones we have on DVD.

4) Lounging around, etc.

Basically, good and very silly times.

ETA!

<lj-embed id="20" />
Thanksgivivg Year 2 from Rachel A on Vimeo.

(For comparison's sake, here is last year's video in which I was beating the egg whites for 45 minutes.)

So I felt quite a bit better Sunday and Monday, and then Tuesday woke up with an incredibly sore throat and started having coughing fits. Came home early from work, stayed home today, and have been "working from home" which means "sitting on the couch watching TV" (and occasionally coding stuff for work, but they've only contacted me, like... twice all day).

Flipping channels led to me watching Catch That Kid on Disney XD, because it stars bitty Corbin. (Also bitty Kristen Stewart.) So it's extremely bad, but there's this love triangle subplot where Corbin and the Other Dude are both in love with K-Stew (even though they're, like... 13?) and refuse to help her rob the bank to save her father (the "plot," as it were) until she decides which one of them she wants to date. So she gives them each half of an "I love you" heart necklace and tells each one not to tell the other. Hijinks ensue, etc etc, and anyway, it turns out, Corbin has always come across as wicked gay on screen. It was mildly disconcerting. He was a baby.

(Well, 14 if my math is right, but he looks super duper younger than that.)

Also in the last scene of the movie, K-Stew makes the boys turn around while she tries to decide which one of them to go out with, and then she runs away and leaves them discussing how they'll always be best friends, no matter what.

I really need to not slash Disney movies quite so hard. Speaking of which... *cough*

And now I may go back to bed.
I'm sick. It's the first time I've been really full-on sick in awhile and I forgot how much it sucked. I got home from work yesterday, went to bed at 7, woke up at 10 to have dinner and was asleep again by 11, woke up at 6 AM to get a drink, fell back asleep until 10:30, napped from 2:30 until 6. And I usually love sleeping! But this isn't restful and I can't breathe through my nose at all so my lips are all chapped. I've been taking sudaphed but can't find any ibuprofin and I have a killer headache and also my back is sore from, you know, lying in bed for 24 hours.

Typing this is using all the energy I have. I can't even read, because I can't concentrate on the text. Which means I also can't write or edit, even though I really want to.

BOO.

What I'm saying, in short, is that you should all write me happy, fluffy drabbles because I am grumpy and sad and can't breathe. I will happily reciprocate at some point when my brain is no longer crowded out of my skull by snot.

Deep thoughts while rewatching HSM3...

- I always forget how much more I like HSM fanon than the actual canon, at least with the third movie. I love the dance sequences, and a handful of other scenes, but aaaaugh, the plot (well, "plot") still infuriates me, horrible new kids infuriate me, and nothing makes any freaking sense. I mean, I know that, but I always forget just how terrible it all actually is until I'm actively watching it, and afterwards I feel like, "Nah, couldn't have been that bad..."

- I never noticed this particular exchange before:
Gabi: "Hey, Tay."
Tay: "Hey, Sunshine." (smiles and giggles)
Huh. And usually I think it's Kelsi whose most in love with Gabriella...

- I will say this for the movie; it's the only one of the three where the actual canon makes me ship Chad/Taylor. (I mean, he's in love with Troy and sometimes Ryan; she's too busy for his nonsense and also apparently has a crush on Gabi, but every interaction between Chad and Taylor is adorable, even when they don't make any sense.)

- ETA: Zeke an Jason are totally right behind Troy and Chad when they grab Horrible New Kids' clothes, and walk off in the other direction, already in the crowd dancing with Ryan when he's doing his Fosse Yoga Thing before they run in. Okiedokie. (Also, I kind of love Chad and Troy being total dicks right there. Actually having personalities ftw!)

- AHAHAHAHA, RAINING CGI BASKETBALLS IS STILL THE FUNNIEST THING EVER EVER EVER. You know what, "Scream" is too magical not to share. Whether you've seen any of HSM or not, you really should watch this. No, seriously. WATCH IT.

<lj-embed id="19" />

- AND THEN CHAD TRIES TO COMFORT TROY. By kneeling in front of his bed. And trying to convince him to break up with his girlfriend. BE GAYER, CHAD. WAIT, YOU CAN'T.

- AUGH HORRIBLE NEW KID, DIE IN A FIRE

ETA 2: I'm SURE Disney did something like this, but did we ever discuss their yearbook superlatives? These seem obvious to me:
- Best Hair: Chad
- Most Likely to Succeed: Taylor
- Most Musical: Kelsi
- Most Dramatic: Ryan and Sharpay
- Cutest Couple: Troy and Gabi

But there is room for debate. And what about Zeke, Martha, and Jason? Thoughts? Opinions? Anyone?

(For the record, I was Most Likly To Succeed in 12th grade, because our editors forgot to spellcheck.)

Important for you all to know: when asked how HSM would be different if Troy was a vampire, he said they'd have to call it High Ghoul Musical instead. OMG I LOVE HIM. (I hate puns, but I love people who make puns. IDK, it's complicated.)

IDK what was happening here, but it was amazing.

(Also, I like boys in earrings, it turns out? I totally dig it on both him and Corbin. Good to know!)

Oriented? Good. Because here is the point: Drew is really, really attractive. Lookit!

ZOMG, look at those EYES.

And I kind of love his hair? It's curly, but usually so short you can barely tell, and I find that just-starting-to-curl thing adorable! (Uh, here it could use a bit of a trim, but whatevs. STILL CUTE.)

But even better?

HIS SMILE. THAT GRIN. OMG.

Even his awkward smile is cute! How?

But it isn't just adorableness:

He can occasionally pull off "super-duper hot." Not sure what it is about this picture, but wow.

So that is Drew! Now for him doing his thing, being reasonably talented!

Drew played Prince Eric in the Broadway version of The Little Mermaid over the summer. Overall, I find this totally awesome. (Eric is my second favorite Disney prince, right behind Philip, but only because Aladdin is not an actual prince. Aladdin is #1 in my heart.)

AHAHAHA, SLEEVES.

AHAHAHAHA, PONYTAIL.

And here he is with Selena Gomez after a show. D'awwww.

And speaking of Broadway...

Drew, honey, you're in The Little Mermaid, not Hairspray. (How cute is this picture, though?)

But more recently in his career, we have this nonsense, of course:

I believe this is the point in the screening when harmonyangel leaned over and whispered at me, "You know, if my boyfriend hadn't called me in a week, and I burst into his room to find him with leather-clad, eye-liner-wearing Drew Seeley, I'd probably start to wonder..." I then had to stifle my giggle, because Drew was, in actual real life, less than a foot away (one seat over and one seat ahead of me). Heeheehee.

Transitioning again! Pictures I find amusing but have no idea wtf was going on!

He is so unimpressed with whoever took this picture. Also: suit (minus jacket)? YES PLEASE.

IDEK, but it looks like he needs a nap.

Okay. That's it. Only one thing left to say.

Peace out, mofos.

(I will return to sanity soon.
So I went to the I Kissed A Vampire premier event.

You guys.

It was bad. Really, really bad.

Like, I had been expecting something terrible but ludicrous and fun, and instead it was just terrible. I mean, I guess it was reasonably entertaining; I wasn't bored. But... yeah. I will write an actual post about it for tween_wasteland in the next couple of days, but basically: the only reason to download this is to support Lucas Grabeel and Drew Seeley's careers, because otherwise? Not worth paying for. And I feel bad saying that, I do, because I think everyone knows that I love those boys. (Well, everyone knows I love Lucas; my love for Drew Seeley is a more recent thing.)

Basically, two things were clear: they had fun putting it together, and also no one put any actual thought or effort into the process. The songs were well-sung (...duh), but instantly forgettable (except for one, which was dreadful). The acting was... Passable, I guess? Drew Seeley was actually genuinely hilarious, I give it that (but he's basically only in parts 2 and 3), but even Lucas couldn't quite pull this thing off. Adrian Slade, same deal; pretty nice voice, not a great actor, and as The Girl, she did not actually do anything. (At least Drew got to wear leather and lick a guitar, and Lucas briefly had some guyliner and writhed on a bed. And also there was a whole dance number about groping him. But that was the really dreadful song.)

On the upside: I got to meet Drew Seeley and Lucas Grabeel! And by "meet" I mean "say hi to and pose for a picture with." Said pictures are on harmonyangel's camera, though, so I don't have them yet. I will post them when I have them!

But basically, yeah. I didn't exactly go into it with high hopes, but even Lucas's talent was not enough to save this thing. It really was that bad.

(ETA: But I do want to stress that both Lucas and Drew were really nice during the 5 or 6 seconds of contact I had with them! They were also both adorable with the tiny fans, especially Drew. Like, epically adorable. I might have a little crush now. And by "little" I mean "I actualfacts ♥ Drew Seeley.")

So I guess sometimes I don't actually post for a couple of weeks at a time. Whoops? But fun and exciting things have been happening lately. By which I mean...

+ VACATION, WOO! I treated myself to one! On Thursday I flew down to Georgia to visit second_batgirl and spent a long weekend with her. It was, as you can imagine, awesome. Mostly we just hung out, but we did also go visit the World of Coke. It was ridicumazing. I bought an adorable tiny keychain with a smiling Coke bottle on it. (This should surprise no one. COKE MAKES ME SMILE, OKAY?)

+ BASEBALL! So how 'bout them Yankees, huh?

+ FANDOM! hsmbigbang began posting today, hooray! And a few days ago, I received the mix for my fic and it is brilliant. ♥

+ WRITING! I've been doing some. It's pretty cool. Hopefully I will have a revised manuscript by the end of the year. We shall see, anyway.

+ READING! Been doing that, too! Justine Larbalestier's "Liar" is fantastic, you guys. It is a psychological thriller, which in this case mostly means "total mindfuck."

+ HEAT! They turned it on in my building last night. This is exciting, because I haaaaaaate being cold. Even if the radiator is ungodly loud and rattly; I'll take that over being cold any day. (It also makes the air very, very dry; I have a bowl of water sitting right next to it tonight to hopefully help combat that until I can get a proper humidifier.)

+ FANDOM AGAIN! So, uh, I think I'm going to the premier of I Kissed a Vampire tomorrow, because it's free, and, y'know, Lucas Grabeel will be there. So it seems like the sort of thing I should go to. (I missed the premier of Free Style with Corbin while I was in Georgia, alas. But hey, HSM boys, if you want to keep hosting free events in NY, be my guest!)

YOU GUYS. YOU GUYS.

DAVID MOSCOW IS IN AN UPCOMING MOVIE. WITH LUKE EDWARDS. BASED ON THE BEATLES.

So. I have D-Mos as a weekly Google alert (DUN JUDGE ME) and it actually turned something up this week, which is rare; it was actually about him, and not just some dude named David who happens to live in Moscow, which is even more rare. Specifically, it turned up this review of Turn Me On, Dead Man which is the sort of thing I would probably want to see ANYWAY.

The movie seems to be about an alternate universe of the Beatles (presumably because they couldn't get the rights to use the actual Beatles' likenesses or music), in which, per conspiracy theory, Paul (sorry, "Blake") actually died and the band covered it up. For those who have never heard me go on at great length, I've forgotten more about the Paul Is Dead conspiracy than most people ever knew, no joke. (If only because most people have no idea what I'm talking about when I start Kermit-flailing about it.)

The movie's site describes it as "a high concept period piece serving as an allegory for the Paul McCartney "Paul is dead" conspiracy theory/ hoax." The fact that it describes itself as "high concept" does not fill me with faith in its quality, but that is REALLY NOT THE POINT. Anyhoo. From what I can figure, D-Mos is the John character (which...AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA) and Luke Edwards is their George.

Movie info is over here and it's worth it to go look at the (non-embeddable, wtf) trailer, if only so you can see D-Mos in the world's least convincing moptop wig.

ETA: Meme! Ask me a fandom, and I will tell you:

+ OTP
+ Runner-up
+ Honorable mention(s)
+ Crack pairing(s)
+ Ship everyone else seems to like, but I don't

FOUR MINUTES. :D :D :D

Oh right, there are people other than Corbin on this show. OH THERE HE IS, standing in the background, while someone lisps and someone else is British.

Dramatic music fade and slow mo. That was special. And...this song was in a detergent commercial, maybe?

Someone (Sonia? I guess) is stuck in traffic elsewhere and popping pills. She DISAPPEARED MYSTERIOUSLY. Some other model is doing her first show.

OH CORBIN IN SUSPENDERS YAY. And some other dude. So far he is the best actor. That is not saying much.

Rachel: "That...that isn't what fashion week does at all."

Little girl explains to dad that stiffing the waitress isn't cool. The dad says "we'll be paying off this vacation for the next three harvests." THAT IS TOTES HOW EVERYONE IN NEWFIELD TALKED.

"Hey, Clark Kent!" ... that dude is kind of like the not-hot version of Clark Kent, I guess. Minus glasses. He is wearing flannel and all. And I BET that is how people get discovered. (Ben Whatshisname = Ashton's Gary Stu, trufax.)

Okaaaay, Mischa wears a red dress and there are flower petals and more slowmo. This is totes how modeling works, you guys.

OPENING CREDITS TIME. But it's not even full credits, alas. And, commercial.

So far so <del>terrible</del>good!

I can't tell if this is the show or another commercial. Ah, show. Not quite enough product placement for a commercial. Also, because credits.

Farm Boy and Mischa have a meetcute. Okiedokie. Sonia hates Misha. Wow, this is some bad acting.

...That's how computers work. I'm pretty sure.

Farm Boy is from Iowa. He needs a squarer jaw to pull off the character they're going for. I guess his name is Chris.

...This is totes how getting an agent works. I'm pretty sure.

WE GET IT. HE'S FROM IOWA. HE LIVES ON A FARM. HIS FAMILY ARE POOR FARMERS. IT IS ESTABLISHED. STOP ESTABLISHING IT NOW.

That photoshoot just looks like they're trying for an Abercrombie ad.

OH MY GOD WE GET IT FARM FARM FARM FARM FARM FARM FARM FARM FARM.

...farm farm porn?

"You're in the shower..." sitting in a chair?

But the photos aren't actually very good.

Commercial. I really want a new iPod now.

CORBIN! Finally! They are "living, breathign chess pieces, locked in bloody combat." But not him.

Exposition. I think that's the chick he's going to hook up with. Cool beans.

Yeah, Corbin's not an actor, but as predicted: no one is making him look bad. ... Okay, this lady is better.

Aw, they missed an excuse for him to be dancing. If he'd said, you know, "dancing." In favor of having him be a musician. Poor choice.

The show: Welcome to New York.
Rachel: I often stumble into a new career.

Farm dad will hold Farm son's job for two weeks, then he's on his own. WILL HE MAKE IT BIG IN THAT TIME?????????

Wow, I am SO bored by Mischa and Ben Whateverhisnameis.

Corbin is playing with a soundboard of some sort. He is SUPER pretty here.

Dude: "You want the door open or shut?"
Other dude: "Shut."
Corbin: *smirk*
Me: *raises eyebrows*

Exposition: Mischa's dad is in prison, she has a brother? I guess her name is Raina on the show?

Okay, so I'm guessing that manager guy is gay for Ben Whathisface. I'm still not enthralled by any of the characters. But man. Corbin is prettttttty.

Commercial. Ad for Fame. Hey, little Panabaker!
... Gossip Girl. I don't care, but hey people who make teevee and movies: COLLEGE, UR DOIN IT RONG. Everything.

Rachel: Seriously, Corbin Bleu is three feet tall.

Line. Posing. Is something going to happen soon?

STOP CALLING HIM FARM BOY OH MY GOD FOR SERIOUS I HOPE HE GETS RUN OVER BY A TRACTOR.

Bitchy British model is bitchy.

That is some awesome hair, Claudia the agency lady.

Rachel informs me I was wrong about which dead-eyed skeleton-lady is Mischa Barton the whole time. WHOOPS.

Corbin and long-haired guy who I assume he had gay sex with earlier are talking about how Corbin is about to get kicked out of the house because he can't get a job. Long-haired guy sells drugs.

Long-haired guy is boring; bitchy British model is bitchy (and also boring). I guess that was... flirting? But... Stupid?

Apparently-Not-Mischa approaches Actually-Mischa WHO HAS A BABY ZOMG!!!11!!1ONE

Rachel: With that much eyeshadow on, when she closes her eyes she looks like an alien with another set of eyes behind them.

Boring guy is homophobic. AND ALSO OH MY FUCKING GOD WE GET IT HE IS FROM A FARM IF YOU SAY THAT AGAIN I WILL PUNCH YOU THROUGH THE TEEVEE.

Speaking of which: Punchination!

Apparently-Not-Mischa is totes going to have sex with that dude for a job. SHOCKING. Commercial.

Rachel points out this show could use some camp. Then it would at least be amusing and not extremely boring, punctuated by moments of "Corbin!!1!!one"

Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. Groping. And Not Mischa blackmails the dude instead, which is OK by me.

Corbin tries to get his music played. He is shut down by the DJ. Poor Corbin is having a bad night.

AND NOW HE IS MAKING OUT WITH THAT CHICK, YAY. Here begins the much-hyped older-lady story line. THIS PLEASES ME.

Long-haired dude hooks up with bitchy British model. And now he's arrested for selling drugs. HA.

Mischa angsts. Someone has sent her flowers. YAWN.

Models have sex with other models. YAWN.

Ben Whatshisface angsts. YAWN.

I utterly fail to care if they're going to have sex. SO BORING ZOMG.

And we're out.

The blackmail gets exposed, I guess. That was not very exciting.

So. In conclusion: that was extremely boring and overall poorly acted, but ZOMGCORBIN1!11!11one.

So VH1 is showing the Beatles Anthology to promote Beatles Rockband. I haven't watched it since it originally aired in 1995 and accidentally changed my life; some of that had to do with music and message or whatever, but mostly it was because through the Beatles I cemented my friendship with Noelle and Jared and Sarah, and we wrote a book and everything was groovy (and in fact, the name Queen Itsy comes from that book, but I've gotten sidetracked.)

Anyway, the second episode ends with Hello Goodbye's video, and WOW, I had forgotten how UTTERLY AMAZING these outfits are.

Admit it.
