naptime

meme

I'm taking tomorrow off and giving myself a 3-day weekend. Again. (I was sick last Friday.) This time will be awesomer, though! I am going to see the Yankees' parade! I mean, I assume "see" is an exaggeration, as I am very short and they're expecting hundreds of thousands of people. And also I hate crowds, so... we'll see how that goes.

WHATEVER, point is I am going to celebrate and also take a day off just for fun! I never do that! :DDDD

And now a meme. Variation on one I've done before. Whatever. Still fun.

Pick a paragraph (or any passage less than 500 words) from any fanfic I've written, and comment to this post with that selection. I will then give you a DVD commentary on that snippet: what I was thinking when I wrote it, why I wrote it in the first place, what's going on in the character's heads, why I chose certain words, what this moment means in the context of the rest of the fic, lots of awful puns, and anything else that you'd expect to find on a DVD commentary track.

And now I should eat dinner, it being 10 at night and all.

stuff

+ People like my bigbang fic! \o/ Because I am far too involved in my own creations, if you managed to slog through all 47k of it, feel free to ask me questions about the universe or whatever. I will send you lots and lots of babble about it. :D

+ AND ALSO, Lucas was twittering about super powers in the last couple of days. I MAY HAVE SQUEAKED.

+ Speaking of bigbang, [info]roseclaw's fic is up! Usurping Oberon, in which Chad is King of the Evil Fairies. It is AMAZING.

+ Drew Seeley is starring in a Hallmark Movie, y'all. About being a teenage dad. For serious:
Freshman Father is based on a true story about a young man (Seeley) whose high school sweetheart becomes pregnant and accompanies him to Harvard. When she gives up and goes home, he has to juggle school and all the challenges of being the single parent of a newborn. The movie will premiere on Hallmark in 2010.

HEEHEEHEEHEEHEE.

+ BASEBALL. Last night's lose was just stupid. But I had originally predicted Yanks in 6 due to a loss from Andy and an AJ implosion, so if they win tomorrow (knock on wood) I'll be correct! THEY HAD BETTER WIN.

+ My mom is visiting for the weekend! She says hi. :)

+ AUGH, WORK. That is all. I'm sure you understand.

Jazz hands!

o hai!

So I guess sometimes I don't actually post for a couple of weeks at a time. Whoops? But fun and exciting things have been happening lately. By which I mean...

+ VACATION, WOO! I treated myself to one! On Thursday I flew down to Georgia to visit [info]second_batgirl and spent a long weekend with her. It was, as you can imagine, awesome. Mostly we just hung out, but we did also go visit the World of Coke. It was ridicumazing. I bought an adorable tiny keychain with a smiling Coke bottle on it. (This should surprise no one. COKE MAKES ME SMILE, OKAY?)

+ BASEBALL! So how 'bout them Yankees, huh?

+ FANDOM! [info]hsmbigbang began posting today, hooray! And a few days ago, I received the mix for my fic and it is brilliant. ♥

+ WRITING! I've been doing some. It's pretty cool. Hopefully I will have a revised manuscript by the end of the year. We shall see, anyway.

+ READING! Been doing that, too! Justine Larbalestier's "Liar" is fantastic, you guys. It is a psychological thriller, which in this case mostly means "total mindfuck."

+ HEAT! They turned it on in my building last night. This is exciting, because I haaaaaaate being cold. Even if the radiator is ungodly loud and rattly; I'll take that over being cold any day. (It also makes the air very, very dry; I have a bowl of water sitting right next to it tonight to hopefully help combat that until I can get a proper humidifier.)

+ FANDOM AGAIN! So, uh, I think I'm going to the premier of I Kissed a Vampire tomorrow, because it's free, and, y'know, Lucas Grabeel will be there. So it seems like the sort of thing I should go to. (I missed the premier of Free Style with Corbin while I was in Georgia, alas. But hey, HSM boys, if you want to keep hosting free events in NY, be my guest!)

HI WHO CAN FIND ME A SCREENCAP OF PRESIDENT OBAMA SHAKING HANDS WITH DEREK JETER BECAUSE I WILL GIVE YOU A PRIZE AND IT WILL BE MY ETERNAL LOVE *FLAIL*

What's awesome is that I'm watching with [info]munkykiss and she had the exact same reaction. &Blanca;

Incidentally, it totally pays to be friends with a librarian; I posted yesterday about that short story in Ranger Rick that I vaguely recalled, and today [info]second_batgirl hacked into a government database or something and with nothing but my incoherent description to go on, found it! It was "Trash Trek" from the September 1990, volume 24, issue 9, page 18-26. DUDE.

Man, for some reason work today felt like a marathon and I am so freaking exhausteed. IDEK. *collapses*

Remember

the last few days

What the sky looked like over Citi Field last night:

(From the NY Times.)

(ETA: More pictures of the sky from yesterday.)

I almost never actually use this place to write about things I do in my life, which is weird, now that I think about it. But let's see. Thursday night I went out with a bunch of my coworkers to see "7.Eleven," which is a series of seven eleven-minute long plays, all set in convenience stores/bodegas, about the Indian-American immigrant experience. I missed a lot of cultural references (and I don't speak Hindi), but they were all phenomenally well done and I'm really glad I went.

After, we all went out for dinner. Amazing: fried goat cheese with honey. I basically ate my weight in it.

Last night was the game. My boss (a die-hard Mets fan) had an extra ticket and offered it to me; I went as my birthday present to myself. (Two and a half weeks, just FYI...) It started pouring while we were on the 7 train out to the stadium, and didn't let up for quite awhile; there was an hour rain delay. But after the storm passed over, it was gorgeous out. The sunset looked a bit apocalyptic, but it was pretty warm and summery, and good game-seeing weather.

And the game... :D I had a slightly better night than my boss, but he took it in stride. The Yankees won, 9-1, and it was one of the more entertaining games I've seen. Sabathia was completely on, which was just awesome to watch. I also really liked Citi Field, btw, probably more than Yankee Stadium II.

Anything else? Hm, at work yesterday we listened to Michael Jackson all day. But I think that's about it.

ahahaha

I twittered: Yes, Michael Kay; we all know you want to blow Derek Jeter. #yankees

(Anyone who has ever watched a Yankees game on the YES Network knows this to be true. I mean, I love Derek Jeter, but yeesh.)

Within ten minutes, in my e-mail: Hi, Becky. Michael Kay (yesmichaelkay) is now following your updates on Twitter.

Ahahahahahahahahahahaha.

In related news, I'm never a huge fan of interleague play, but ... Go Mets? It feels so odd to say that.

Big Gay Baseball Dance Off!

she only knows that joke because she lives with me

[info]queenitsy: So who are you rooting for at this point in the post season?
[info]harriet_vane: ROCKS FALL, EVERYONE DIES.
[info]queenitsy: No, but seriously.
[info]harriet_vane: I am serious! Who are YOU rooting for? And don't tell me Torre, you can't root for the Dodgers just for Joe Torre.
[info]queenitsy: Uh. Mattingly?
[info]harriet_vane: FAIL.
[info]queenitsy: I know! And I can't root for the Dodgers, they beat the CUBS. The Cubs never hurt no one! If you cheer against the Cubs, you have no soul!
[info]harriet_vane: And I can't root for TAMPA BAY.
[info]queenitsy: But what's your alternative, the Red Sox? HA.
[info]harriet_vane: BITE YOUR TONGUE.
[info]queenitsy: So that leaves...what, the Phillies? Go Phillies? That just doesn't sound right.
[info]harriet_vane: Can't we just keep rooting for the Cubs?
[info]queenitsy: Go Cubs!

Something to cheer for!!

So the Yankees were disappointing this year, but as everyone knows, I am a HUGE Mike Mussina fangirl. I LOVE him and fangirl him wildly -- he's a great pitcher, he's a smart guy, he's ruggedly handsome.

And in his what, 19th year in the major leagues, at the age of 39, my baby FINALLY has a 20-win season. HELL YEAH, MOOSE. ♥ ♥ ♥ This is what a career renaissance looks like!

Oh, Johnny Damon, you sexy Geico caveman, you!

This week's bloggery (I was oddly productive):

-Book review: Nobody's Princess by Esther Friesner. Spunky young Helen secretly trains to be a warrior. Four cupcakes.
-Exceedingly short: A stupid picture of Zac Efron at the stupid picture Zac Efron blog Tweenage.

All-time Yankee hit list, as of tonight: Gehrig, Ruth, Jeter. Now that is a fucking list.

You know, they may be playing some mediocre ball this season, but some things are still heart warming.

PS, Dear everyone in New York, back the fuck off Joba. Give him a couple of starts, Christ. All young pitchers walk people; 3 of his 7 outs were strikeouts. I know we're all still disappointed in Phragile Phranchise Phil, and perhaps Kennedy was vaaaastly overestimated, but Joba rules. The end.

I Live For This

a lovely afternoon

I think this is my crazy fangirl face. (More at Rachel's flickr.)

Despite the, uh, part where they lost (eyeroll), it was quite a lovely day. Seriously. The prediction was rain, but instead it was 60 and sunny out. Rachel and I were on the ball enough to bring sunscreen (because we are vampirically pale and would spontaneously burst into flame otherwise), which meant that the sun was quite lovely. And like, seriously, warm enough that we both stripped off the jackets and sweatshirts, which for those of you who know me and that I prefer temperatures approaching jungle-like, was quite remarkable. Our seats were about three quarters of the way back on the third base side; upper deck, but near the front. They were actually damn near perfect, because the lower decks were all in shadow, and from our understanding, it was cold where there was no sun. So ha!

And yes, I kept hydrated.

Also fun was that we were sitting next to the Tiniest Yankees Fan. He was with his dad, and probably about three, and decked out in full, adorable gear. Obviously, being a toddler, he didn't really have much of an attention span, but was adorably entertaining throughout.

The boys lost, but there was an entertaining rally in the 8th that kept it from being a total downer. If the A hadn't been running shuttle bus (oy) even the trip home would have been fine.

I, on the other hand, am still completely stuffed up -- but not sick in the way I was all week. Like, this is clearly still the flu, and I'm coughing, but I feel like a person again, capable of thought and movement and digesting food. So this is all very positive. (Regardless, I'm off to take cough syrup and go to bed. Yay for sleep!)

Blink/Mush: So I Will Hold On

hooray!

Aside from our defective cat trying to KILL ME, and a couple of ridiculous coughing fits, I feel much better. So we're off to Yankee Stadium!!! HOORAY!!! And hopefully they will be less sucky than last night, because seriously, losing 14-4 to the Devil Rays? Stupid.

But first, a meme. My username is _____ because _____. )

I Live For This

hooray!

I woke up this morning with either terrible seasonal allergies or a slight flu, and I don't generally have seasonal allergies. So...ick. I'm exhausted and stuffed up and heading for bed soon.

But I just need to say, thank GOD baseball is back. Seriously. I swear, it makes me more productive in my life in general, but especially with writing. There's something perfect about baseball, even with a dribbling idiot like Michael Kaye commentating; it's engaging enough to pay attention to whenever I feel like it, but calming enough that I get boatloads of writing done. Seriously, it's the best ever for writing to.

I'm actually not terribly disappointed about today's rainout, though I am very very very anxious to see my boys again. Because the reschedule for tomorrow is happening in the EVENING, when I will be home to see it. Which is a very good thing indeed.

Man, I can't wait for Saturday.

HOORAY!

Rachel and I have tickets for opening weekend! :D :D :D :D :D

In unrelated news, after a week, I did not have to put goo on my head. My scalp is much better; still a bit pink in places, but, like, the spot behind my ears that has been itchy and flakey for, oh, three or four years now? Lovely and skin like. Not scaly at all! Which is good because I am, you know, a mammal.

I'm supposed to continue to use this stuff once or twice a week for... ever? Dunno. Regardless, though, I am pleased with my non-disgusting head.
