a lovely afternoon

I think this is my crazy fangirl face. (More at Rachel's flickr.)

Despite the, uh, part where they lost (eyeroll), it was quite a lovely day. Seriously. The prediction was rain, but instead it was 60 and sunny out. Rachel and I were on the ball enough to bring sunscreen (because we are vampirically pale and would spontaneously burst into flame otherwise), which meant that the sun was quite lovely. And like, seriously, warm enough that we both stripped off the jackets and sweatshirts, which for those of you who know me and that I prefer temperatures approaching jungle-like, was quite remarkable. Our seats were about three quarters of the way back on the third base side; upper deck, but near the front. They were actually damn near perfect, because the lower decks were all in shadow, and from our understanding, it was cold where there was no sun. So ha!

And yes, I kept hydrated.

Also fun was that we were sitting next to the Tiniest Yankees Fan. He was with his dad, and probably about three, and decked out in full, adorable gear. Obviously, being a toddler, he didn't really have much of an attention span, but was adorably entertaining throughout.

The boys lost, but there was an entertaining rally in the 8th that kept it from being a total downer. If the A hadn't been running shuttle bus (oy) even the trip home would have been fine.

I, on the other hand, am still completely stuffed up -- but not sick in the way I was all week. Like, this is clearly still the flu, and I'm coughing, but I feel like a person again, capable of thought and movement and digesting food. So this is all very positive. (Regardless, I'm off to take cough syrup and go to bed. Yay for sleep!)

hooray!
Aside from our defective cat trying to KILL ME, and a couple of ridiculous coughing fits, I feel much better. So we're off to Yankee Stadium!!! HOORAY!!! And hopefully they will be less sucky than last night, because seriously, losing 14-4 to the Devil Rays? Stupid.

But first, a meme. My username is _____ because _____. )

hooray!
I woke up this morning with either terrible seasonal allergies or a slight flu, and I don't generally have seasonal allergies. So...ick. I'm exhausted and stuffed up and heading for bed soon.

But I just need to say, thank GOD baseball is back. Seriously. I swear, it makes me more productive in my life in general, but especially with writing. There's something perfect about baseball, even with a dribbling idiot like Michael Kaye commentating; it's engaging enough to pay attention to whenever I feel like it, but calming enough that I get boatloads of writing done. Seriously, it's the best ever for writing to.

I'm actually not terribly disappointed about today's rainout, though I am very very very anxious to see my boys again. Because the reschedule for tomorrow is happening in the EVENING, when I will be home to see it. Which is a very good thing indeed.

Man, I can't wait for Saturday.

HOORAY!
Rachel and I have tickets for opening weekend! :D :D :D :D :D

In unrelated news, after a week, I did not have to put goo on my head. My scalp is much better; still a bit pink in places, but, like, the spot behind my ears that has been itchy and flakey for, oh, three or four years now? Lovely and skin like. Not scaly at all! Which is good because I am, you know, a mammal.

I'm supposed to continue to use this stuff once or twice a week for... ever? Dunno. Regardless, though, I am pleased with my non-disgusting head.

YAY!!

I mean, I'd be happier if the Yankees took the division, but given the way things looked until August, I'll take it.

YAY!

[info]queenitsy: Why is there a delayed start to the game today? It's not raining or anyth...Never mind, silly question, it's because of the Scooter thing.

[info]harriet_vane: The what?

[info]queenitsy: The Scooter tribute? Phil Rizzuto?

[info]harriet_vane: Oh! I was just picturing the Yankees riding on scooters. I'd pay to see that.

[info]queenitsy: Everyone would cheer when Derek rides by, and then A-Rod would sulk because we all like Derek's scooter better.

[info]harriet_vane: And then Robby and Melky would goof around trying to knock each other off their scooters.

[info]queenitsy: And Joba would be all, "Guys! I want to ride a scooter, but the rules say I can't because I rode a scooter yesterday! [pout]"

First off, So You Think You Can...Dance (dance, dance) )

In other news, I did have a job interview today. Cross your fingers. I had a good vibe, and that's all I'm saying.

Okay, so yesterday, Josh and I were planning to go to Ikea. Instead we went to the Yankees game; he'd been given last minute tickets through work. Shelley Duncan is my hero. )

I don't know how this happened...
So you know how the Yankees haven't, um, won a whole lot this year? Sometimes you just have to laugh.

Thus, lolyankees. (See also i can haz cheezburger?, LOL President, [info]loltheorists if you're confused. Not that they'll actually clear anything up.)

Carl Pavano: im in ur rotation eatin my contract

third base: do not want!!!

MOAR. (I'll probably make more, actually. I'm open to suggestions. Non-yankees okay.)

how odd!
Michael Kay actually just made me laugh. Like, intentionally.

"You choose the player of the game. Text us your vote. It's A) Alex Rodriguez; B) Brian Bruney; C) Melvin Mora; D) Steve Trachsel; or E) Sanjaya."

I'm so confused! Michael Kay sucks!

(ETA: A-Rod! Holy crap, that was clutch! No way!)

And...I can't root for the Mets, but goddamn was that an awesome catch.

Well, my office feels a little bit more like it's mine now (even though we're apparently moving at the end of the month and I likely won't have my own office anymore, alas). I brought in one of my calendars, so now I have a large spread of Derek Jeter hanging up to my right.

Sigh.

I haven't been reading any baseball news or watching games since, well, you know. I have a hard time cheering for anyone in the AL who isn't the Yankees (and definitely can't root for Detroit, even though I enjoyed them through most of the season). I hate the Cards (sorry, Dad) and I just can't bring myself to root for the Mets. So it looks like I'll be watching the World Series, cheering for the stadium to catch on fire. You know how that goes, right?

(Yes, of course I'll watch it; it's the last baseball for months and months. Sob!)

...My boss totally just came in and mocked my calendar and the entire sport. I kicked him out.

Aaaand, I should get to work. But I hate fact checking. It's the most boring, tedious, awful thing I do here. Even when I wrote the copy I'm checking. (Perhaps especially then.)

Well, that SUCKED.

However, Letterman amuses me. Number two on the list of the Top Ten Ways to Make MLB Playoffs More Interesting:

"Fine A-Rod a million dollars every time he chokes."

Heeeee.

(Rachel: "The proper answer, of course, is for Derek Jeter to play with no pants.")

Yeah, I don't think there is anything sexier than, "Derek Jeter is now 5 for 5 with a home run tonight, the beginning of the post season."

Seriously. Hot.

clinching!
Oh my lord, Melky is such a baby and so adorable. He just dumped, like, half a bottle of champagne on Torre's head. Then Torre and Deej! took turns pouring it onto one another and playing with their hats. Very very cute. But they all look so tired.

Aww. Hugging.

(ETA: "I'm getting all choked up." Joe, I can't tell... And the Mo dumped stuff on his head while he was trying to give an interview and more hugging and making fun of Mo's injury, and gosh, just, awww.)

birthday
My birthday was quite nice, if not over the top exciting. I decided that I wanted to be a pretty, pretty princess; as it happens, I really only own one dress, which I'd never actually worn, so today seemed like a nice excuse. I am quite the hottie when all dolled up, I'll have you all know.

Rachel bought me an ice cream cake, which was awesome. I ate about a quarter of it (I'm much like an anime girl in that respect) and, to my great shock, didn't immediately puke or anything (my body and dairy products often don't get along). So that was great. And while eating and hanging out, we watched the Yankees game, and the Yankees won! Which puts them a mere 1.5 out of first place; not bad for a team that, what, 72 hours ago after the All Star was considered dead in the water. Ha!

Josh and I went out to dinner this evening, which was lovely. He also got, er, dolled up. Not really, but he did dress up a little bit, and he's also quite the hottie when dressed up. (I'm sure you all were very interested in hearing that.) I had surfed through menupages for awhile and found what looked like a nice Italian place, and upon arriving (easier said than done, as I'd written the address down wrong) we discovered it was closed for vacations. So we ended up wandering for half an hour or so, looking for somewhere nice, and found an awesome hole-in-the-wall Italian place, which had, seriously, some of the best food I've ever had. Horrible music (Barry Manilo abounded), but amazing food. And, uh, drinks.

I was a bit dizzy and feeling ooky on the way home, so we sat on a random stoop and just hung out for quite awhile. It was lovely. What a nice boy.

All in all, a lovely birthday. :)

Papi's posse wears pastel.
It's true, I saw them myself outside the Stadium.

Sooo, Josh surprised me today with tickets to see the game. (He had a friend he wanted to take, and his sister wanted to go, so he figured as long as he was begging tickets from his family connection, he'd invite me, too.) The seats were awesome, on the first base side, perpendicular to home plate. We were only about eight rows behind Guiliani.

The game itself was amazing. I'm glad I saw this one, and not last night's; as awesome as blowouts are, this one was just terrifically close. But the absolute best moment was Melky's catch over the wall to rob Manny of a homer; it was possibly the most gorgeous thing I've ever seen. I freaking love Melky. He's such a baby (only 21!), but so awesome!

It was just such a good game. And now I'm hoarse... which is kind ofa problem, with my two interviews tomorrow. Oops. But I should be okay by then.

FYI
I'm half heartedly blogging the Sox @ Yankees game over at [info]baseball_chicks, at least for now. If anyone's interested.

(ETA, quote from Josh on the phone: "So my roommate and my best friend are both here, and they're both former football player, jock, manly-guys. And they're out on the balcony discussing cooking, so I had to call my girlfriend to discuss the game.")

Lovely dinner with Margot tonight. Out with the boy tomorrow; two job interviews on Wednesday. (Eek?) I also have a pile of bills (Old Navy card, student loans, cable, etc) sitting in front of me, and can't find my checkbook. Every time I start to seriously feel like an adult, something like that happens. Arrrrg.

Andy Philips, baby!
