concert! also, internet!
So I seem to have accidentally gone to a My Chemical Romance concert. Uh, whoops? But it was for Rachel's birthday, and it turns out that I kind of enjoy The Black Parade. The concert was fantastic start to finish! I'm sure there are people on LJ who actually, you know, know what songs were played and will give actual detailed accounts, but yeah. That was my very short concert review. It was good.

And then afterwards Rachel and I went out for late dinner with the Entire Internet. Hi, Entire Internet! You were all very nice!

--

Unrelated, I'm apparently going to see Samuel Beckett's "Endgame" next week. One of my coworkers really wanted to see it and has put together a post-trip group outing. I, uh, failed to mention to my coworkers that the only reason I'm really interested is because Max Casella is in it.

And now I'm going to bed. Because goddamn, am I tired.

quick notes
I'm leaving in a few hours to head off to [info]harmonyangel's house for the night. Tomorrow, she, [info]poisonivory, and I are heading to visit [info]second_batgirl for a week-ish. Unemployment be damned! This was supposed to be paid vacation. Grumble. So yeah, I'll be out of town; probably with minimal email access for awhile. But i will have my phone if you need me.

Speaking of job stuff, the interview/test I mentioned thinking I did quite well on on Thursday I apparently did (knock on wood), because Friday they called to schedule a third (hopefully final!) interview. So that'll be the Monday after I get home.

In non-job, non-vacation news, I've been reading links and links about the LJ account deletions and their implications. I, personally, have no interest in leaving LJ; I didn't come here for fannish reasons, and despite the fact that there's been a lot of fannish stuff mixed in here in the last few months, I don't primarily use LJ for fandom. I'm quite attached to this place, so I'll likely be staying here.

That said, I do get why other people are deciding to leave. And I don't want to lose track of anyone on my flist! So if you're heading off, please tell me where. I'm queenitsy on IJ and GJ, and have an ancient, never-used account as temira on JF. Feel free to friend away. (My initial impressions, incidentally, are that I like IJ a lot more than GJ or JF, but I probably won't be using any of them much.)

The HP release was fun, crowded, and crazy. I enjoy that while waiting for your numbers to be called in line, everyone gets to be best friends.

First four-ish chapters read; can't keep my eyes open much longer. When did I turn a million years old?

Birthday!
My default icon is mildly appropriate for once.

Thanks for all the happy wishes today, y'all. I got a bunch of nice comments and a few phone calls from awesome people, which made me feel very popular and loved. :)

As for the day itself, I spent the whole of it with Josh--I'd crashed at his place last night and he, ahem, opted out of work today, so we hung out for awhile then went on a harbor cruise in the evening. It wasn't quiet evening enough to really be "harbor lights", but it was lovely regardless--I picked up some neat history geek type things from the cruise commentary, so that was also nice.

So overall, a lovely day. And now, alas, to bed.

So You Think You Can Dance
So, I just got home from the SYTYCD show. Travis Wall makes the world a prettier place. And he is a one man disco inferno. )

Thanks to [info]poisonivory, I knew the game was rain delayed; it sucks that it's rained out. I won't get to watch tomorrow, as I'll be at work, but I will probably secretly follow it on Gameday.

And now, to bed. So tired!

what the hell?
David (Managing Editor): Well, I'm back, take your lunch. Oh, and there's free ice cream downstairs. Bring me back one if you feel like waiting in line.
Me: Uh huh. (David is a compulsive liar.)
David: I'm telling the truth!
Me: (unimpressed) Uh huh.

So I get in the elevator, go downstairs to get lunch, and...there are balloons everywhere, a three person brass-and-banjo band playing, and long lines for free ice cream! Yay! And no one seems to know why or what the hell is going on. But hey! Free ice cream!

birthday
My birthday was quite nice, if not over the top exciting. I decided that I wanted to be a pretty, pretty princess; as it happens, I really only own one dress, which I'd never actually worn, so today seemed like a nice excuse. I am quite the hottie when all dolled up, I'll have you all know.

Rachel bought me an ice cream cake, which was awesome. I ate about a quarter of it (I'm much like an anime girl in that respect) and, to my great shock, didn't immediately puke or anything (my body and dairy products often don't get along). So that was great. And while eating and hanging out, we watched the Yankees game, and the Yankees won! Which puts them a mere 1.5 out of first place; not bad for a team that, what, 72 hours ago after the All Star was considered dead in the water. Ha!

Josh and I went out to dinner this evening, which was lovely. He also got, er, dolled up. Not really, but he did dress up a little bit, and he's also quite the hottie when dressed up. (I'm sure you all were very interested in hearing that.) I had surfed through menupages for awhile and found what looked like a nice Italian place, and upon arriving (easier said than done, as I'd written the address down wrong) we discovered it was closed for vacations. So we ended up wandering for half an hour or so, looking for somewhere nice, and found an awesome hole-in-the-wall Italian place, which had, seriously, some of the best food I've ever had. Horrible music (Barry Manilo abounded), but amazing food. And, uh, drinks.

I was a bit dizzy and feeling ooky on the way home, so we sat on a random stoop and just hung out for quite awhile. It was lovely. What a nice boy.

All in all, a lovely birthday. :)

Put your brain on the floor, baby, shake it. Rock with me!
I'm not dead or anything, just insanely, insanely busy.

But.

I quit my jobs! Both of them! *glee*

And Margot is here, and Rachel was here, and things are generally awesome. Because I quit my jobs!

(PS: If you are [info]zengarden, [info]myownimprov, or [info]poisonivory, you are late with your secret slash fic. Shame! Shaaaaame on you! *wags finger disapprovingly*)

And today, I met Daria.
I would just like to say that Tracy (who has worked on many projects as a writer, and yet is probably best known as the voice actress of Daria [and no, she doesn't speak in a monotone]) is incredibly, incredibly cool. She had her adorable (if slightly sick) daughter with her, showed me the whole Comedy Central office suite, and let me sit in on part of a writer's meeting. (Of course, they had no copy to go over; instead, they were discussing various forms of venereal disease. What did you expect?) She also sent me the Comedy Central comedy test, which, while daunting, is nothing I don't think I could handle.

It was also particularly awesome because her basic philosophies of comedy writing seem to line up more or less with mine. We discussed workshopping comedy to find its strengths and weaknesses, and the gender breakdown of comedy audiences and comedy writers. And, of course, our general frustration as female comedy writers. Ha! Years of discussing with Rachel and griping at Jeff about the lack of female parts in BK paid off!

So, yes; all of my interviews were great and informative, but this one was particularly awesome.

Also awesome was that afterwards, I met up with Jen and Jess and we hung out for hours (and Caroline managed to join us for dinner, despite running off to another state tonight). Which was crazy fun, and full of conversations that focused a lot less on gay sex than one might assume. Well. Not that much less.

Tomorrow, Rachel and I are going to hang out and go see Good Night and Good Luck, and perhaps go shopping. Like I haven't spent enough money.

Right now, I'm very happy.

A Sides Win
Margot got me A Sides Win for my birthday!!!!111one

Seriously. Coolest. Thing. Ever. It doesn't seem to have the alternate versions of videos that Second Hand Views did, but a) it's a DVD (and that means screen caps), and B) its got the more recent videos as well. (Second Hand Views came out pre-Between the Bridges.)

Oh, man. The sailor has to go beat up the blind waiter for spillingdrinks on teh bride, and girls are moshing to Everything Youv'e Done Wrong.

Most awesome. present. ever.

[ETA: It does, actually, have the alternate videos. *glee!*]

Best Chanukah present ever.
OhmigodIlovejonstewartlikewoahsqueeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!

I feel like I should have more to say about it than that, but really, what else is there to say? Cats in heat, non-nouns, and Judaism have never been so funny. I think I nearly died laughing, as I couldn't actually inhale properly for a good minute and a half.

Nothing I can type would do the show justice. So fucking amazing.
