Memes! So many memes!
I've been stepping away from the internet, which means saving up memes. Here, have three.

1) Tell me about a story I never wrote, (ie., "that story about Chad and Ryan and their pet chicken!") and I'll (try to) write you at least a drabble's worth of it. (Y'all know my fandoms, right? Right.)

2) If you would like, please quote a bit of my writing at me. Find that one story of mine that you really like, and find a sentence or a paragraph that presses your prose-buttons in the right way, and comment here with it. I don't care how long or short the excerpt is.
(Links: All my Newsies stuff in one place; everything else.)

3) Tagged by [info]clio21000:
List fifteen fictional characterspeople, male or female, who you would have sex with (in no particular order) and tag 5 people to do the same. (Yeah...I hadn't read the rule carefully when making up my list. Most of them are fictional!)
Fifteen folks, in no order except for the order of the directory where I uploaded them. )

hooray!
Aside from our defective cat trying to KILL ME, and a couple of ridiculous coughing fits, I feel much better. So we're off to Yankee Stadium!!! HOORAY!!! And hopefully they will be less sucky than last night, because seriously, losing 14-4 to the Devil Rays? Stupid.

But first, a meme. My username is _____ because _____. )

yeah, again
Yep, staying home again, as per orders from [info]poisonivory. Something about actually sleeping after you've been the hospital (but to be fair, I was only in the hospital for 20 minutes, and that was just to get the x-rays, which were negative! So whatever.). I'll probably go in tomorrow, though, because I hate missing work.

--

As we were getting ready for bed last night, [info]harriet_vane let some of her magical writing approach slip. I thought a few people might appreciate it: "In case of emergency, I always write about how Ryan has a scarf."

--

I am off to drink some juice, shower, and eat some jello, and drink some more juice (I really don't want to get dehydrated again). If you're interested in keeping me entertained whilst I'm home sick, feel free to hit me with the fuck/marry/kill meme...even though I feel genuine guilt at having to kill people sometimes. Sensitive soul that I am.

fic rec, meme
So long as I am home sick I am totally going to spam my flist, SO THERE. I mean, what?

Anyway. I've spent the last couple of hours reading all of [info]lielabell's newsie fics; I'd read some of them already, and decided that since I loved everything I've read by her, I should, you know, read EVERYTHING by her. And so should you. Because she's great, and her characterizations are pretty much all excellent.

If you're looking for somewhere to start, however, I recommend The Wages of Sin. It's sort of a collection of short stories, tied together by setting and theme: the boys are all frequenting an upscale brothel. Which means that there is (gasp) het in this fic, clearly, since... you know, brothel. But there's also slash, and -- I can't say gen, but something like it, pieces which are more about the boys' personalities and characters, rather than relationships, regardless of the fact that pretty much every chapter (in fact... I think every chapter) involves someone gettin' it on.

So, read that! Especially if you want (shh, don't tell FFnet) Jack/David smut. And then read A Mother's Love, because it's about Medda being awesome, and then check out the various Bits and Pieces at the Refuge, and your heart will BREAK. Probably. Mine did.

So yes: [info]lielabell. She's great.

Okay, and now the meme. Though I still have to write the actual journal entries from the last meme. Perhaps I will be even spammier this evening.

Comment with any ship from a fandom you know I like or am familiar with. I will then go on about said ship for at least one hundred words. Perhaps more! Feel free to comment with ships I like, ships I hate, or ships where my opinion is neutral or unknown. I'll be honest and diplomatic about all of them, with a bit of added flail for the OTPs.

From Rachel and Jess:

Everyone has things they blog about. Everyone has things they don’t blog about. Challenge me out of my comfort zone by telling me something I don’t blog about, but you’d like to hear about, and I’ll write a post about it. Ask for anything: latest movie watched, last book read, political leanings, thoughts on tv, favorite type of underwear, stories I'm working on, travel, etc. Repost in your own journal so that we can all learn more about each other.

puppies!!
It's puppy bowl Sunday!!! Of course, I have work, but luckily work that can be done while sitting on the couch, watching puppies frolic. Puppies! (Oh, and some sports thing...?)

The problem with watching the PuppyBowl is all the commercials that feature sad puppies, about how some dogs never get adopted. No! Save the puppies!!

([info]harriet_vane: How are puppies so adorable?
[info]queenitsy: Because they're little! And they have ears!)

I played a Mario game for essentially the first time in my life last night. So this is what it was like being normal as a kid? *g*

Um, and a meme. A. List Seven habits/quirks/facts about yourself.
B. Tag seven people to do the same.
C. Do not tag the person who tagged you or say that you tag "whoever wants to do it."

1) I occasionally jokingly refer to my "long-lost other family" but it's only half a joke. I have a much-older half-sister and -brother. My sister isn't long-lost in any way (she lives about 20 minutes from my parents, so I've always seen her and her kids pretty regularly), but my brother pretty much dropped off the radar for quite awhile. I didn't see or hear from him for four or five years. I haven't seen his kids (between my two half-sibs, I've got two nieces and four nephews) in even longer...probably almost a decade.

2) I only use green toothbrushes.

3) My older sister and I share a one bedroom apartment. Yes, that means that we (ages 24 and 28) share a bedroom. We wouldn't mind moving a two-bedroom place, but we actually have never fought or stressed over it.

4) As I said, two people live in our apartment. Yet we have three copies of the original Star Wars trilogy -- yes, that's three copies of each movie. We need them all, okay?

5) I hope to never live anywhere that doesn't have public transportation. I hope to never own a car.

6) I am anti-food: I find putting meals together to be really stressful; I'm very picky about what I eat; I've been a strict vegetarian for upwards of ten years. I wish I could just photosynthesize and never have to deal with eating again.

7) If I get the feeling that the writers of a TV show have set up some sort of arch or mystery but don't know how it ends, I get too irritated to watch the show. Needless to say, this is a huge part of why I don't watch Lost or Supernatural, and why I was so impressed with season one Veronica Mars.

oy.
If you never hear from me again, it's because work has killed me. For serious. There's a massive AIDS conference next week; I've been told to "emotionally prepare myself" for basically twelve-hour days for the next two weeks. Whiiiiiiine.

However, I have trouble totally whining because Rachel bought a Wii and it shipped today. Neither of us has ever had any sort of gaming system before; we are super psyched. For real.

And now, meme. From [info]lielabell:

YOU'RE ON MY FRIENDS LIST, I want to know 36 things about you. I don't care if we never talk, or if we already know everything about each other. Short and sweet is fine ... You're on my list, so I want to know you better!

BE HONEST! COPY FROM HERE THEN SEND DIRECTLY TO ME IN A COMMENT THEN, REPOST THE EMPTY QUESTIONS.

updates and meme
Well, I'm working from home today, but...not a lot of work is happening. (Only a little bit my fault at this point.) So instead of completely wasting the day, I updated the feministnerdblogthing (Gender and the Geek), and then since I figured I might as well update blogs while thinking of them, I updated Active Voice (The Frog Princess). Yay me?

And now a meme from [info]harmonyangel: Comment on this post. I will choose seven userpics from you profile and you will explain what they mean and why you are using them. Post this along with your answers in your own journal so others can play along.

And now mine. )

ETA: So I'm working from home, and thus didn't bother to shower. But I want to go shopping, as I no longer own any pants (long story), so I was goign to shower first. I told my sister I'd been putting it off because the second I got in the shower, work would finally call. She thought I was joking.

SURE ENOUGH. I turned on the water and she yelled that my phone is ringing. So now I'm sitting around in a towel finishing up odds and ends as I wait for a final phone call. NEKKID.

Scandalous, I know!

stuff
I am oddly interested in the spam I just recieved (from one Kid Buddha), subject line, "inexorably cowboy." Something about that just sounds interesting. I'm not sure what it is.

Work is starting to go well. I officially passed my trial period and was invited to stay, so yay! I'm slowly being phased in to regular office...things. I have a computer login and work email now, though they don't do me a heck of a lot of good. The only free PC in the office is approximately eight years old (and that isn't hyperbole), so it has nothing useful on it...except access to the network. The Mac is much newer and more functional (and also, you know, a Mac), but has no network access. So I spend much of the day finding stuff on the network, emailing it to myself, fixing and updating things on the Mac, then emailing them back to myself to save on the network. (They're checking to see if a new PC is in the budget.)

I'm learning all the things they want me to learn, and fairly quickly, at that. So neato, I guess.

Meme from [info]kelbebop: Comment in this post and I will choose seven of your interests I would like you to explain more clearly in your journal.

Job stuff/Memery
Well, I don't have either of the jobs I went in for multiple interviews for. Which sucks, obviously. I'm getting a decent response rate for resumes I send out; I've been playing phone tag with someone trying to set up an interview, and got an email over the weekend inviting me in for an interview for a pretty good position.

I'm still trolling job listings, I'm still sending out cover letters and resumes every day. Mondays suck and have the fewest listings posted, but I'm doing what I can. Sigh.

And now, meme. This one makes the rounds every few months, but I've never done it before.

THE RULES:
1. Leave me a comment saying anything random, like your favorite lyric to your current favorite song. Or your favorite kind of sandwich. Or your favorite breed of tropical fish/kind of bug/breed of dog. Something random. Whatever you like.
2. I respond by asking you five personal questions so I can get to know you better.
3. Update your LJ with the answers to the questions.
4. Include this explanation and offer to ask someone else in the post.
5. When others comment asking to be asked, you will ask them five questions.

I am absolutely NOT writing what has somehow become an EPIC fic taking place at Lava Springs about Chad and Ryan. Because that would be WRONG.

Well, it killed a few minutes.
The Sonnet
Deliberate Gentle Love Dreamer (DGLD)

Romantic, hopeful, and composed. You are the Sonnet. Get it? Composed?

Sonnets want Love and have high ideals about it. They're conscientious people, caring & careful. You yourself have deep convictions, and you devote a lot of thought to romance and what it should be. This will frighten away most potential mates, but that's okay, because you're very choosy with your affections anyway. You'd absolutely refuse to date someone dumber than you, for instance.

Your exact female opposite:
Genghis Khunt

Random Brutal Sex Master
Lovers who share your idealized perspective, or who are at least willing to totally throw themselves into a relationship, will be very, very happy with you. And you with them. You're already selfless and compassionate, and with the right partner, there's no doubt you can be sensual, even adventurously so.

You probably have lots of female friends, and they have a special soft spot for you. Babies do, too, at the tippy-top of their baby skulls.

ALWAYS AVOID: The 5-Night Stand (DBSM), The False Messiah (DBLM), The Hornivore (RBSM), The Last Man on Earth (RBSD)

CONSIDER: The Loverboy (RGLM)

yeah, memes
I know I have been super meme-y lately, but that's basically because work is time consuming but not too interesting to talk about. Um, the book I'm reading is really neat? Giant squids are cool? My cat is evil and crazy?

Yeah, memes. From everyone:

Name a character and I'll tell you three (or more) facts about them from my own personal headcanon.

And:

If you had me under your command and could make me write anything, regardless of whether or not I know the fandom or if anybody even writes fic in that fandom and no matter how crack-addled it might be, what would you love to see me write?

meme
The icon/interests meme has been going around my flist for a couple days, but [info]revena did it a couple weeks ago, and I she gave me my three then, and now I'm finally doing it. (The drill: she picked three of my icons and three of my interests from my profile, and now I explain them. If you would like, leave a comment and I will pick three of your interests and icons for you to explain.)

Interests
Bass clarinet: I played one for many years. (I started on a standard clarinet, and started playing bass in...8th grade? I continued through 12th and actually got my own for graduation, but never played in college, alas.) I was actually quite mediocre, but apparently bass clarinetists were rare enough in my area that I did All County and Area All State several times.

Canpop: Lo those many years ago (11th/12th grade) I listened to a lot of music from Canada. (The short list: Sloan [from which came the Flashing Lights, Superfriendz, Thrush Hermit, and the Local Rabbits] and Moxy Fruvous [which led to the Supers].) I still do listen to all of those, actually, and they aren't all that poppy (welll...SOME are....), but it was the most convenient way to put it in my user info.

Sharp cheddar cheese: Um...I love sharp cheddar cheese? Sadly, there is no greater story there.

Icons

- This was created by [info]singingllama and is Yzma from The Emperor's New Groove, which is a truly amazing piece of wackiness. I love Yzma, especially as a kitty...and I have an evil grey kitty who would totally conspire to murder me if she could, so it seems even more appropriate.

- This one was created by [info]poisonivory and is Tulio from The Road to El Dorado (and the character for whom my computer was named). He's a swindler who gets swept away on an adventure against his will, which at one point involves bathing nude with his best friend. I am not joking. Later, of course, he (and said best friend) are mistaken for gods. Between that and his incredible hotness, the text.

- Way, waaaay back in the day (gosh, um, four years ago now? Geeze...) [info]baelarion and [info]v_cat and I ran a website called GeekGirls wherein we reviewed things, ranted, and were generally awesome. The amazingly talented [info]nopenname drew a lovely, chibi-fied picture of the three of us for our "about" page. This was me - at the time my hair dyed dark reddish/purple, though not quite that noticably. And that was my Batman plushie. Anyway, it is a picture of fangirly joy and happiness.

Okay, like, three years ago, there was a meme something like this: Pick 20 of your favorite fics and post a paragraph/line/snippet of some sort. Then, people guess the fic. Super fun!

New rule: plz don't guess your own fic, especially not if you're one of the people who make up, like, a third.

Anyhoo. Enjoy.

Five Things meme
I wasn't going to do this meme, but everyone else's response posts made me change my mind. Soooo. (I probably won't be able to do these until tomorrow, though.)

You post a topic, list, category, whatever, in my comments section. (examples: "Five times Miley was like a puma," or "Five things David Jacobs will miss about being a newsie when he goes back to school"). Then, in a separate post, I'll post the answers to your Top 5 ideas, according to me. Serious or fun!

Things I write in (or would try anyway): Newsies, Sky High, El Dorado, Terminator; I'd take a stab at Scrubs, Wonderfalls, VM (nothing taking place season 3, though, I'm behind), early seasons West Wing, Supernatural (even though I don't enjoy it), Friday Night Lights...The Suite Life, Hannah Montanna...
