Corbin Bleu: SO PRETTY!

miscellaneous things

#1: Saturday was DK's birthday. There was bowling and ping pong and general shenanigating, and needless to say, it was awesome. ♥

#2: I watched WALL-E last night and it reminded me of a story I read in Ranger Rick in the early 90s sometime, but I haven't been able to figure out anything useful like the issue, or title, or author, or anything. Grrrrr. It was a creepy future where some space explorers landed on a planet that was nothing but trash, and met the weird mutants who lived there and asked about how it got to be that way, and basically the planet never learned to recycle and completely junked itself generations ago, and no one even remembered the what the planet was called before the junkenating. (Hence thinking of it while watching WALL-E.) And of course the twist at the end was -- gasp -- as they were taking off to go back to the spaceship, the weird mutant thing yelled after them, "Wait! I remember the name of the planet! It was Earth! The name of the planet was Earth!"

GASP!

Shut up, I was, like, 8.

Anyway, on the very offchance that anyone else was a) a nature geek; and b) read that issue, anything? Any clues? Anyone?

#3: So I watched Disney's awful Princess Protection Program, yeah? But I just want to put out there, mockery aside (it was really pretty bad) that I actually love that it's a story about two girls who become BFFs. And that's it. No awkwardly shoehorned in romance, just two girls, making friends, and girlfriendship being good as the moral of the (completely incoherent) story.

(Basically, I was reading this meta and sort of did a doubletake; because it's a DCOM, they aren't really "awesome likable hot active fleshed out female characters," but they were basically likable, almost-but-not-quite-fleshed out, female characters who were definitely the most important protagonists AND not attached to love interests. DUDE, that is RARE.)

#4: My birthday is Wednesday. :D

this is getting stupid

ahahaha

I just rewatched Terminator 3, and had forgotten this truly awesome exchange:

Kate: [to John] Who are you?

John: [to Terminator] Tell her who I am.

Terminator: He is John Connor, leader of the worldwide human resistance, and last, best hope of humankind.

Kate: Uh huh. [to John] Who is he?

John: He's a robot from the future.

Heeeeeeeeee.

Um, the last few lines (before the closing voiceover) actually are really good, though. ("This is John Connor at Crystal Peak." "Crystal Peak? Who's in charge there?" "...I am.")

I know I'm the only one who really likes the third movie, but I do! I enjoy it like I enjoy really good fanfiction, though. It uses an established world and characters very, very well, and is super entertaining. It just doesn't feel like "canon" to me because JD happening entirely negates the first two movies, which are all about how nothing is inevitable and we make our own fates. But as a movie, in and of itself, I enjoy it quite a bit.

white trash beautiful

terminator salvation

I just got back from seeing Terminator Salvation. Super quick thoughts:

- KYYYYYYYYYYYYYYLE. Always has been and always will be my favorite character in the franchise. ♥

More, very minor, vague spoilers )

In summary: it was passable, but definitely my least favorite of the four movies. I still much prefer the T:SCC offshoot than movies 3/4.

Oh. My. God.

!!!!!

I FINALLY SAW STAR TREK. OH MY GOD YOU GUYS, I REALLY REALLY LOVED IT. Except the bits I didn't. BUT IT WAS SO MUCH BETTER THAN IT HAD ANY RIGHT TO BE, AND IT WAS SILLY, AND KIRK GOT BEAT DOWN A LOT WHICH I QUITE ENJOYED.

Unrelated: I'm a video newscaster! Sort of. Look at me read the news! (Well. Click to the twitter link and then to the video, because I'd rather not link directly from LJ to my workplace, and I'm way too lazy to figure out another way to do that.)

Related: Sponsor me in the AIDS Walk!

(Er, if you did not watch the video, that's related as my news anchor role is specific to HIV headlines.)

DID I MENTION THAT STAR TREK WAS SERIOUSLY ENJOYABLE?????

Hug!

!!!!!!!!!!!!

ZOMG I JUST MET DAVID MOSCOW.

Kind of. Accidentally.

ZOMG I HELD A DOOR FOR DAVID MOSCOW.

I was leaving work, and as I exited the building I paused to hold the door for the dude behind me, who looked passingly familiar but I didn't process why. He said, "Thanks," and went back to talking to the woman he was with; I believe what he said was, "It got cooooold," and that was what tipped me off to who it was was, because he sounds just like, you know...himself.

By that point he was too far away for me to say hi too without yelling or chasing him like a lunatic (and I do not do well with famous -- errrr, "famous" -- people. I met the bassist from my favorite band in 12th grade, and actually literally forgot my name when he offered to sign my ticket).

BUT STILL. I sort of met David! :D :D :D

(This is my only icon with D-mos actually in it, somehow. FAIL, SELF.)

Blink/Mush: So I Will Hold On

I bet he'd soak a scab.

...So there's that, then. I can't bring myself to be too upset or, you know... Care too much. I think CBale is a great actor, but every interview he's given in recent years has made me more and more sure he's also a raging asshole (and a pretentious dickhead to boot), so... There you go then.

But then, I'm one of the approximately 5 people in the whole world who didn't like The Dark Knight. Not even due to the issues with women in it, I just didn't think it was very good.

...I just have a very deep voice.

that movie again

I said last night that I really enjoyed Journey to the Center of the Earth. Here's the slightly more coherent reaction over at Hathor, though it only deals with Hannah and how awesome she was, and not the ludicrousness of the movie as a whole. (Because it is quite ludicrous. But I would watch Brendan Fraser punch semi-sentient plants in their kinda-faces all day.)

In other news, Rachel and I packed eleven boxes today. All of books. (We have other possessions, but that's probably about half of everything we own...) The liquor store was kind enough to provide us with free boxes. By way of thanks, we also bought a cheap bottle of wine, and, uh, drank it. Whoops?
male cheerleader

awesome.

I got to take a half day at work today! That means, for the record, that I left at ten of five. YES, that is working more than seven hours of my typical (well, not typical this week) eight-hour work day. It's a lot like half a day. Oy.

BUT! Then [info]poisonivory and [info]harmonyangel and I got together, which was super fun! We went to see Journey to the Center of the Earth which is, as you might expect, a remarkably stupid movie that I would go see A MILLION TIMES. Brendon Fraser punches foliage and gives you an all-access pass to the gun show. The quasi-love interest kicks ass, in that they seemed to forget to give her any character traits other than "competent and badass" so pretty much all she does is save everyone else repeatedly and roll her eyes at them. The movie is 100% ridiculous, but it's 100% ridiculous in 3D, so that's always awesome, too.

The story itself is bad and breaks a lot of the rules of good writing* If you are looking for a silly way to kill a couple hours and find the idea of hitting prehistoric fish with a baseball bat hilarious, do go see it. It's essentially a cartoon, which happens to have live action actors. You will giggle a lot.

do not hurt gamera! gamera is my friend!

WALLE

Yesterday was pretty rockin'. I was productive at work; I brought my laptop in so I could get some writing done and was productive after work, too. Then met up with my awesome coworkers and we all went to see WallE.

YOU GUYS. It' s not just dystopian (which I love) robots in love (which I also love). It's dystopian robots in love who are obsessed with Hello, Dolly!, which I also really really love. It is FANTASTIC. Srsly.

Oh. My. God.

ahem.

The new Indiana Jones in six words:

Shia LeBoeuf: King of the Monkeys. PS: Beware spoilers beneath. )

In related news, only Rachel and I recognized "I missed it by thaaaat much," as a catch phrase in the Get Smart preview, and consequently only we laughed, and everyone else stared at us.

Blink/Mush: So I Will Hold On

Okay, seriously, he needs to pick better roles

Christian Bale allegedly to star as John Connor in Terminator 4.

Now, I love that CB could pretty much have consulted my brain for "things I love" and decided to star in them, starting in 1992 (Newsies? Equilibrium? Velvet Goldmine? Batman, for christ's sake?), but seriously, Terminator? Only I loved T3, and even I acknowledged it was terrible. And while I do have a big ol' crush on John Connor, and my heart might explode with love if CB played him, there is no way this will be good. At all. Seriously, CB needs to pick better roles than this! He can actually act! Why would he do this?

Anyway, it's not confirmed, and while part of me hopes it'll happen, most of me hopes it won't, for his sake. (Besides, I'd like Nick Stahl back as John Connor; he was pretty fantastic, and on top of that, he kind of looked like the lovechild of Linda Hamilton and Michael Biehn.)

In other news, the Sarah Connor Chronicles premiers soon. It also looks terrible. I will watch it regardless. I love Sarah Connor, too.

Squeeeee!

(no subject)

I had a call shift today, and didn't end up working; this is actually okay with me, because it means that instead, this evening Kat and I are going to go see a Red Eye/Brothers Grimm double feature. And this despite my deep fear of horror/thriller movies! I've heard mostly good things about Red Eye, already hate airplanes anyway, and am intrigued. As for the Brothers Grimm, despite it's mediocre and mixed reviews, it has Matt Damon. That's really all Kat and I require.

So hopefully it will be a good night.

Blink/Mush: So I Will Hold On

Dan and I saw Sky High last week and out of boredom I just glanced at a few Sky High summaries at FFnet. And poooor Warren. He was my favorite character, too, but I'm pretty sure every single fic was Warren/OC. Which, especially in a fandom I assume is mostly fairly young writers, means Warren/Mary Sue for at least 80% of them.

A small part of me is wondering if there's any Warren/Will, though. Because there should be.
