Because McCartney has (duh-duh-duh-DUM) NINE LETTERS

YOU GUYS. YOU GUYS.

DAVID MOSCOW IS IN AN UPCOMING MOVIE. WITH LUKE EDWARDS. BASED ON THE BEATLES.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! )
Movie info is over here and it's worth it to go look at the (non-embeddable, wtf) trailer, if only so you can see D-Mos in the world's least convincing moptop wig.

I'm on a strike motherfucker

various things

First: GIP! By which I mean
Take no pictures, trick, I'm on a strike, bitch
We eatin' old unsold papes 'cause they so crisp
I got my slingshot and my pimping cane
I'm on a bridge; you in Manhattan actin' all insane

And so on.

Second: Tonight was a really fun night that was also mildly disappointing. But I did get to see Seth Green on roller skates, so we'll give it an A+ regardless.

Third: As some of you may be aware, my sister is a completely and totally kick-ass teacher in the Bronx. You may not be aware that in the last school she worked at, she raised the passing rate on the state history exam from 30% up to 75% singlehandedly. NO JOKE. Well, her current school has essentially no textbooks -- what they do have are out of date and the kids aren't allowed to take them home -- so she is raising money to buy them at donorschoose.org. Should you happen to have a few bucks to spare, they would go a long way.

Fourth: As I am randomly bolding phrases, it is time to go to bed. <3

Fifth: Oh yeah, while still slightly stuffy, I basically feel better.

very important things!

1) Sign ups for Secret Slash at the Refuge! Obviously totally important.

2) Daria is finally coming out on DVD! Not until next year, but still! Hooray!

3) There is no three, I lied.

The end. No, I lied again. ETA: Meme from [info]falco_conlon. Reply to this meme by yelling "Words!" and I will give you five words that remind me of you. Then post them in your LJ and explain what they mean to you.

All My Newsboys

So I don't know if you're all following the amazing Sims 2 + Newsies thread at The Refuge... But you should be. The always-fabulous [info]ldhenson has created some frankly amazing Newsies Sims and has been sharing them with us. With her permission, here are some highlights. :D

Hug!

!!!!!!!!!!!!

ZOMG I JUST MET DAVID MOSCOW.

Kind of. Accidentally.

ZOMG I HELD A DOOR FOR DAVID MOSCOW.

I was leaving work, and as I exited the building I paused to hold the door for the dude behind me, who looked passingly familiar but I didn't process why. He said, "Thanks," and went back to talking to the woman he was with; I believe what he said was, "It got cooooold," and that was what tipped me off to who it was was, because he sounds just like, you know...himself.

By that point he was too far away for me to say hi too without yelling or chasing him like a lunatic (and I do not do well with famous -- errrr, "famous" -- people. I met the bassist from my favorite band in 12th grade, and actually literally forgot my name when he offered to sign my ticket).

BUT STILL. I sort of met David! :D :D :D

(This is my only icon with D-mos actually in it, somehow. FAIL, SELF.)

Blink/Mush: So I Will Hold On

Love Letter

Today is my six-year fandomversary in the Newsies fandom. More or less.

It's actually the sixth anniversary of me posting my very first fic on FFnet, though I'd been lurking around for a few months at that point. Y'see, my sister was living in Japan at the time, and she sent me the movie as a gag gift for Chanukah -- a wacky, "Hey, remember how we used to have every line of this movie memorized and would sing the songs in the car? Ha ha, it's on DVD now, lol" present. (Very specific, I know.) So I watched it. And then I watched it again that same night. And then I went in search of fic.

Rachel, presumably, did not intend to give me a gag gift to Change My Life. And it sounds corny to put it that way. But it's more or less true. Consider:

Were it not for fandom, I would not know several of my closest friends. [info]harmonyangel was the first person from the internet I ever met IRL, back in junior year of college. Shortly thereafter, I met [info]poisonivory through the drabble community; we met IRL that summer. My life would not be the same place without my Lohrists. ♥ (And while I obviously didn't meet [info]second_batgirl through fandom, since we met in college, that was a huge part of what we bonded over when we first became friends.) And those are just people who I now hang out with offline -- a huge percentage of my friends list is fandom-based, and "friends" is the operative word there. You all make my life a better place, and were it not for my love of a silly but wonderful movie, I wouldn't know you.

There's more, too. You know that writing thing I do a lot? Hi, thanks fandom. :) I mean, yes, I've always written a lot, even in my pre-fandom days. (And between-fandom. My first fandom was actually Sailor Moon, back in middle school. Heh.) But it was very much the Newsies fandom where I've grown up as a writer, like, a lot. Maybe natural over the course of six years, but if it weren't for the amazing community and the encouragement... It makes a big difference. And I'm so proud of the writing I've done in fandom. "How I Spent My Summer Vacation" is 350 pages long, and it took four years, but it's the best thing I've ever written -- and the way my writing improved is definitely clear throughout. Even a year and a half after finishing, I pretty much glow with pride when I think about the last few chapters. (I managed to pull loose threads together into a coherent ending! I didn't know I could do that!)

It's a small fandom, and not one most people stay in for an extended period of time. (Fair enough: it's a closed, short canon.) I've seen lots of people come and go, and there are a lot of people I miss. And I've definitely been more out than in at times. But it's always been there for me, and I always come back to it. At some point, I think I described it as feeling like I was One True Fandom? I think so.

So here's to another six, and many happy returns. ♥

Microfic Meme, II

Blink and Mush! Mostly.

"Damn, depth perception's even more important with hovercars."

Until very recently, the golden retriever had been a newsboy.

"Hey, a letter from my friend Dixie!" Medda exclaimed.

Episode Related:
The nightstick damn near took out his good eye.

First Time:
Boys weren't supposed to do this with each other.

Fluff:
No one noticed two newsboys holding hands in the crowd.

Humor:
It wasn't funny when people fell down. Except Snipeshooter.*

H/C:
"Don't worry none. I'll pay for lodging tonight."

Smut:
In the dead of night, Mush could touch Blink everywhere.

UST:
Mush didn't only scandalize ladies when he unbuttoned his shirt.

I broke up with f!s awhile ago, but I will admit, seeing this on my flist (thanks to Sita and Cym for reposting) did put a huge smile on my face. Er, the love part. (We always love new members, though. If you stumble across this, f!s person, play with us! ♥)

In other news, are Joel McHale and Kieth Olbermann just BFF? Because this is the second time Joel has been on Countdown since I started watching.

Very Important Question

So I have my own room now. This is a very big deal: I haven't reeeeally had one since I graduated from college and left my beloved Mod 10. I lived with my parents for awhile, which was dandy (they were really great about letting me be an adult and independent, and went far out of their ways to accommodate me ♥) but it wasn't the house where I'd grown up (that one kind of fell down, long story) so I was basically staying in a guest room with all of my mom's sewing. Then I moved into Rachel's one-bedroom apartment in what was originally going to be a temporary arrangement until I got up on my feet in the city, but, uh... I never moved out. (Rachel also gets a ♥ for letting me do that.) So we shared a single bedroom (a large one, but still) for two and a half years.

But now I have my own! So I can actually hang up my own posters and such! And so I've reached a decision: after waffling about this for well over five years, I definitely want a Newsies movie poster, even though they're completely hideous. Seriously, completely. But there are two in existence! And they are equally fugly!

So internet, please tell me: which eyesore should I purchase and hang on my wall?

Blink/Mush: So I Will Hold On

Recs post!

So I was playing with the new random fic feature at the Refuge, and was pretty much shocked when it threw up a couple of fics that I couldn't remember reading (I've read at least 90% of what's there, at one time or another, but had NO memory of either of these). They're both fairly short and extremely sweet, and a few years old, so people who have joined in the past year or two may have missed them.

Incidentally, I updated my massive recs list last night.

PS: Spot/Blink/Race. *review whores*

The Refuge

Hey! The Refuge is turning four years old! And we're celebrating! And if you're in the Newsies fandom, you should come play! Or...I'll cry.

(Seriously. Not to emotionally blackmail my friendslist, but if people don't participate? I will be horrifically, cripplingly saddened. So. You know. You should participate.)
Squeeeee!

ahah

I beat Paper Mario today! Yay me!

Anyhoo. Thing that is making me giggle: Rachel and I were watching Pride & Prejudice just now, which happened to have been on Oh! network. They're promoing a month of movies, which I can't pick out a theme to, but Honey is among them. Which means that skeevy adult David Moscow's "Now that... that is sexy," is one of the taglines in the ads.

Sadly, him being slapped by Jessica Alba is not in the montage of chicks slapping dudes that the ad ends with.

Speaking of D-Mos, his (presumably terrible) made for TV movie on Spike airs tonight. Oh yeah. The TiVo is set up.

Good!mod mode! (Let's see how long it lasts.)

In a fit of productivity, I did various bits and pieces of updating and cleaning up around the Refuge -- chiefly tweaking the main page layout. Ha. My mad web producer skills at work. Look at me, all cutting and pasting things to other places. So it's nothing major (definitely not a redesign) but I'm quite pleased with the way it turned out. So... hooray!

Mar. 13th, 2008

cough. hack.

So I'm still coughing up a storm and, due to the napping today, have totally fucked up my sleep schedule and am now not going to get much sleep tonight, which sucks. I'm going to work tomorrow, though; I just hate taking days off and I really don't feel sick enough to justify it. I have no symptoms other than coughing, wtf? (Well. And now my throat hurts, because it's the really raw, racking kind of cough that causes ache, apparently.)

Today was actually pretty nice, though. The cat barely attacked me at all! And I spent it mainlining Newsies fic, which was excellent. I read everything I hadn't already ready by [info]lielabell and then everything I hadn't already read by [info]cymbalism219. They are both so good. I really just feel like the Newsies fandom is excellent right now; it's small and fun and full of goodfic and nice people. I know I go through phases of being super into it (like, oh, now) and times when I'm not so much, but I'm always so happy it's there to go back to. It's like coming home.

♥ to everyone on my flist.

(ETA: in my last entry, btw, I discuss various pairings: Jack/Race, Mush/Blink, Spot/Race, and -- totally not my fault -- Teddy/Denty. More requests are welcome; I'm having fun!)
Blink/Mush: So I Will Hold On

fic rec, meme

So long as I am home sick I am totally going to spam my flist, SO THERE. I mean, what?

Anyway. I've spent the last couple of hours reading all of [info]lielabell's newsie fics; I'd read some of them already, and decided that since I loved everything I've read by her, I should, you know, read EVERYTHING by her. And so should you. Because she's great, and her characterizations are pretty much all excellent.

If you're looking for somewhere to start, however, I recommend The Wages of Sin. It's sort of a collection of short stories, tied together by setting and theme: the boys are all frequenting an upscale brothel. Which means that there is (gasp) het in this fic, clearly, since... you know, brothel. But there's also slash, and -- I can't say gen, but something like it, pieces which are more about the boys' personalities and characters, rather than relationships, regardless of the fact that pretty much every chapter (in fact... I think every chapter) involves someone gettin' it on.

So, read that! Especially if you want (shh, don't tell FFnet) Jack/David smut. And then read A Mother's Love, because it's about Medda being awesome, and then check out the various Bits and Pieces at the Refuge, and your heart will BREAK. Probably. Mine did.

So yes: [info]lielabell. She's great.

Okay, and now the meme. Though I still have to write the actual journal entries from the last meme. Perhaps I will be even spammier this evening.

Comment with any ship from a fandom you know I like or am familiar with. I will then go on about said ship for at least one hundred words. Perhaps more! Feel free to comment with ships I like, ships I hate, or ships where my opinion is neutral or unknown. I'll be honest and diplomatic about all of them, with a bit of added flail for the OTPs.

Jack/David fanart kiss

Naked newsboy hilarity!

So last summer, Jess ([info]poisonivory), Jen ([info]harmonyangel) and I drove to Georgia to spend a lovely few days with Margot ([info]second_batgirl). It was, as you can imagine, awesome! And I brought a recorder to keep track of all of our hilarious hijinks, which were also awesome. I was originally going to transcribe and edit the audio for all of it, but it turns out we actually produced a full gig of wackiness, and I'm lazy. But because I'm in such a Newsies mood -- and we all (mostly) met through Newsies fandom -- of course we talked about them a lot. So I dug through and found this, a truly awesome conversation, had on the way to Six Flags. Sadly, no audio track, but transcript ahoy!

Warning: lots of naked newsboys, not for the feint of heart or innocent of soul (read: my parents), complete silliness, and ... well, that's it, really. (And sadly, Margot didn't talk much, as she was busy being a responsible driver...)

[ETA: Um, thanks to find and replace, and me being a loser, Margot's name is in all caps. And I am waaaaaay too lazy to fix it. Whatevers.]

Blink/Mush: So I Will Hold On

Figures

I get up for my very last day of class, ever, and feel horribly horribly ill. I'd skip it but, you know, last class ever. Also I have work directly afterwards so it wouldn't make that much of a difference. (Then get to be on a bus until, like, 2 AM. Goody.)

Ught.

Pst, fandom people: The Blush Manifesto is up.
