more on commercials
So now it turns out that the Fiber Optics kid and Bill from Wamu both in commercials for some hybrid SUV.

I think Veronica Mars's mother might be shilling pizza bagels or something like that, but I'm not 100% sure it's her.

Oh, Corbin.
So I just watched what must have been about the second episode of Flight 29 Down, the Discover Kids show starring Corbin Bleu.

Thoughts:

-Most of the acting is about on par with Corbin's, which is saying something. Except the for the chick who's his rival (I guess? I'm not clear on who they were or what was going on, except, you know...plane crash) was terrrrrible. So was the obligatory stupid, shallow chick. But the Adorable Young Child was pretty much non-annoying, and also didn't sexually harass anyone, and thus Discover Kids is head and shoulders above Disney

-Corbin assaulting a coconut tree? Genuinely adorable.

...

You know, I thought I had more thoughts than that. It wasn't a very deep (or good) show. But it's co-masterminded by the guy who brought us "Are You Afraid of the Dark?", which failed to scare me when I was, like, ten (and afraid of the Goosebumps books, for god's sake, and please forget I said that immediately), and also the Pendragon book series, which I hated. (In the first two, which was all I read, because...hatred.) So it's actually better than I expected.

Mrr. I want to write some Chad/Ryan but the fic I'm trying to force out is going nowhere. Someone give me ficlet prompts?

Why I was not informed of this?!!
(Okay, I was informed, just now, by [info]harmonyangel. Shh.)

Scott Porter (Jason Street of FNL) is playing Rex Racer! You know. Racer X? Secretly Speed's older brother who left home years ago? This could only be better if Zef was playing Speed! (Alas.)

In other news, I am not mature enough to work in an office. Because the editor in chief and the managing editor had this conversation, and I did nothing but giggle from my desk:

EIC: Look, we have to be more specific. First off, does the question specify if it's a male-male or female-male blowjob?
ME: It doesn't specify, but it doesn't matter. The question is about receiving, which is male or female.
EIC: Now, wait, do you mean receiving as in, receiving the blowjob? Or as in receiving the sperm?
ME: According to our style guide, receiving means receiving liquid.
EIC: Now, really, I think the problem with this blurb is that we need to make it more interesting. Why do people care about giving blowjobs?

(And on for a good ten minutes. Luckily, it's not just me; one of my coworkers informed me that everyone giggled through the safe sex pamphlet they published. Our style guide specifies, by the way, that blowjob and watersports are neither hyphenated nor spaced.)

My job went much better today, clearly.

Clear eyes, full hearts
My Friday Night Lights DVD set is here.

I'm not sure I've ever posted about the show here, but the truth is that last season, it was the best show I saw on the air, and one of the best ever. It's got better characters than Veronica Mars (s1, even) and every single episode makes me choked up.

And it isn't a show about football. The team is what ties the various characters together, and there's a lot of lingo thrown around, but you don't need to know anything about football to follow. You don't even need to like football to like the show, because it's about the characters. Who are all so good (and unlike, say, VM, not everyone is evil and going to betray everyone!).

I can't even explain how good the show is. But you can watch it at nbc.com, and the DVD set is only $20 and they're offering full money back if you don't love it. But you will. Because it's so, so good.

In other news, I did have a job interview today. Cross your fingers. I had a good vibe, and that's all I'm saying.

Okay, so yesterday, Josh and I were planning to go to Ikea. Instead we went to the Yankees game; he'd been given last minute tickets through work. Shelley Duncan is my hero. )

Um, the HELL?!
Coming in 2007: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.

Um. I feel I should have been informed of this in time to either put a stop to it, or mastermind it, because while I think the iea of a show about Sarah is awesome (mostly because Sarah is awesome), I have less than no faith that the network that brought us Tremors: The Series (or whatever it was called) will do any better with Terminator: The Series.

Also, that kid is waaaaaaaay too pretty to be John.

Spoilers for Brisco County episode 17: Fountain of Youth )

I loved this show so much as a kid and I'm so glad I saw it then instead of now. It can get away with this because of nostalgia, since if I saw it now, I'm sure I'd be incredibly frustrated by the obvious, serious problems with writing and plotting. Seriously, the hell?

On the other hand, I love this show so much from when I was ten. You have no idea.

during commercials for Smallville tonight...
[info]queenitsy: Is that supposed to be Oliver Queen?!
[info]harriet_vane: What is an Oliver Queen?
Itsy: The Green Arrow.
Harriet: That's the one with the ring and the aliens and the lantern and there are, like, four of them, and the one you really like who's gay with that other guy?
Itsy: That's the Green Lantern.
Harriet: Wait, you mean those are two different characters?
Itsy: Yes.
Harriet: Which one is allergic to yellow? Because that's still stupid.
Itsy: Lantern, and yes, it is.
Harriet: So wait. Really two dudes? Who the hell is the Green Arrow if he's not the one with the ring?
Itsy: He was a Batman knockoff, with an Arrow-car and an Arrow-cave and--
Harriet: No one has an Arrow-Cave. Unless it's covered in that Swedish foam Aero stuff for squishing. That would be a cool cave.
Itsy: --and he has a teen ward sidekick, Speedy.
Harriet: Wait, you mean... The Green Arrow and Speedy? Dad didn't make them up?
Itsy: No?
Harriet: Oh. I thought they were one of those things Dad made up and likes to say to sound folksy. "Good lord willin' and the crick don't rise..."
Itsy: What's cute to a sneaker?

AUGH, I was wondering who the hell the random extra on this episode of Scrubs was, and then realized it's MOSBY from the Suite Life and AUUUUGH.

ETA: And what's more brilliant than an episode that points out that the show's reality is completely crazy by using Earth logic against it? I love that gag!

VM premier!
The VM premier is on youtube. Without spoilers, some thoughts.

1) New credits: not okay
2) I somehow never noticed in seasons one and two, but Dick Casablancas is reeeeeally pretty.
3) So. Much. Better. than last season's premier.

I also saw the Supernatural premier. It was...predictable. But better than I expected. And featured barefoot Jensen, of whom I approve greatly.
