naptime

(no subject)

So I worked for ten hours yesterday, and eleven hours today. It will probably be in that range again tomorrow. Goody.

In other news, I'm currently weighing the inconvenience of going without a computer for acouple weeks against the fact that Tulio needs help. He doesn't like to charge anymore; it takes a lot of cajoling. Sometimes his screen goes dark or he turns off for no reason. Oh, and also I need a new keyboard. On the other hand, I'm genuinely not sure if I have AppleCare or not, and I also can't afford to pay a whole lot, so. Hm.

Bedtime? Probably a good idea.

Oh. My. God.

Tulio lives! Apparently, all he really did need was time to dry out. Thank goodness.

Yay!

chibified me

How times change...

I should be asleep, but I've been wondering lately what my early entries here were like, and found this pretty interesting:

Er, what was I saying? That's right, does [the LJ-updating application] work? And is it worth aliasing this thingy in my apple menu?

Aww... functional apple menu. And I haven't even aliased something in... pretty much forever. Awwwwww.

Blink/Mush: So I Will Hold On

(no subject)

Tulio is back! Yay!

As of this evening, I'll be seven days without a Coke or coffee. I seem to be basically through the headaches, which is a good thing. I'm going to give it another few days (if not a couple weeks, depending on my resolve) before I let myself drink a Coke, not wanting to backslide. Because I do crave them; not in the headachey, withdrawal symptom sense, but in the general, relief, Coke-is-my-best-friend-and-I-miss-it sense.

Well, not really my best friend. Way up there, though.

So I'm surviving.

Blink/Mush: So I Will Hold On

I'm an unemployed vagabond, we decided.

The last two days have been almost entirely good, except that my computer might be remaining dead for a little while.

Yesterday, I had brunch with Rachel and her friend Christine, then went from there directly to lunch with Jess, Caroline, Maddy, and Margot. That was, as one would have to assume, awesome. Jess and Caroline had to rush off after, however; but Maddy, Margot, and I got drinks at Starbucks, sat around, and discussed gay porn fandom for a few hours same thing, anyway. Then we got dinner in a diner across the street. It was a very food-centric day.

Today, Margot came to visit and we took Tulio down to the Apple Store in Soho. That store makes me wish I were a millionaire in a way few others do. I want everything. Mostly, however, I wanted the genius bar to fix Tulio. This did not happen. However, they're pretty sure they figured out the problem, but there's a good chance that Apple will consider it something that falls outside of the warranty. And they can't tell how screwed up Tulio is, so it'll either be very, very easy to fix (and cost less than $200) or very, very hard to explain (and cost upwards of $700). At the genius's recommendation, I'm trekking to another Apple-licensed repair shop tomorrow to get a second opinion. If they think it'll be the inexpensive one, I'll go for it; if they think it'll be the expensive one, I'll... cry. Because I can't really afford $700 to fix my computer right now.

Speaking of money, I'm in the process of a job application (awaiting email from someone to complete it), and have begun scouting slightly better, not-crap-jobs. I've found a couple I'm interested in and I think qualified for; I begin writing cover letters tomorrow. Goody!

So overall, I'm feeling pretty good, and pretty poor. Things would be worse on the computer front, but I have everything backed up and am using YT, Rachel's old (oooold)) iBook. It's not the same as having my own computer here for use, but there is high speed wireless, and it's still a Mac, so I'm not going to complain too much. Well. I'll try not to.

It's so nice to have friends.

Blink says WTF?

(no subject)

Fandom stuff: hee. I'm glad no one (at least thus far) has caught the typo in the email I sent last night. And again: if you have any stuff at the Refuge, back it up ASAP. I don't know quite when I'll be doing the upgrade, but I'm itching to do it. And not sure what I'm doing. So that'll be fun! I very much hope I don't wipe out the entire archive.

Working on the new layout for the site is fun, too. Except I fucking hate IE. But this is not news.

Speaking of technical things I don't understand, Tulio flipped out last night and turned himself off. Three times. The ever-fabulous [info]mattsachs talked me through getting him to stop doing that, though, and he seems to be behaving now. *crosses fingers* (Even better, after working his voodoo to fix Tulio through the phone, Matt and I had an actual conversation! We've barely done that since junior year! Gasp!)

Things here are looking up. By which I mean, I feel like I'm snapping out of the funk I've been in for awhile. That would be nice. (That said, I still haven't done anything useful like, you know... pack. I should get on that.)

Blink/Mush: So I Will Hold On

(no subject)

For a day off, today was reeeeally productive. I ran errands, did laundry, cleaned my room (or at least, made serious strides towards it--very serious ones, though!) and did some writer-y stuff that makes me happy.

Also, Mom and Dad gave me my early Chanukah present! An all-in-one printer/scanner/copier. This is awesome, because I haven't had a printer since mine died sophomore year, or a scanner since Sam died last February. So, yay!

But of course, odd things happened. )

Either way, my printer is much faster than either of my parent's, which is also nice. And I can scan again, yay!

Blink/Mush: So I Will Hold On

ha!

So I'm at Dan's new apartment, which is lovely; we're hanging out and I turned on Tulio and was immediately asked to join someone's wireless network. Which is pretty cool, since Dan doesn't get his internet hooked up until Wednesday. Yay for unsecure wireless networks.

Blink/Mush: So I Will Hold On

Ahem:

The computer's name is Tulio.

I couldn't come up with a girl name I liked, which kind of implied that it wasn't a girl. (Because when you're talking about computers, that can be implied.) But Matsui was just a little bit too masculine, and so really, Tulio was the best compromise.

(Would anyone care to make me a lovely Road to El Dorado wallaper? Resolution is 1024 x 768, I believe.)

Mmm... Tulio.

I'm wireless!

And it's so liberating.

The new computer is adorable. I miss my copy of Photoshop, though. Hmm. But I got basically all of my stuff recovered (what little was saved; but it was most of the important stuff), basically everything I need up and running, and it's very exciting. Especially because I have to write a paper tomorrow...

...I also have my interview tomorrow, so on that note, I am going to bed. I could get nearly ten hours of sleep. And that would be lovely.

Names in the running )

It doesn't have a name yet. I don't know its gender and that'll pretty much settle it.

But still... Eeeeeee!
